We explore the UAE Civil Code and its provisions on personal obligations and rights, the Law of Obligations and the different types of obligations and their sources, explaining the difference between “real” and “personal” rights.

» Mergers and Acquisitions in the Civil Law context,

» the general duty to negotiate in good faith and its implications,

» the protection of the investor in the case of an equity financing round, and

» the right of first refusal.

We kick off with an overview of the legislative landscape and formalities for protection, Federal laws governing the areas and treaties, registration process and enforcement. We will focus on the types of IP Rights in the UAE, i.e. Trademarks, Patents & Designs, Domain names, Trade Secrets, Copyrights. This introduction will be followed by an interactive case study session.

» laws governing the areas (Federal vs Local) and

» the registration process.

We will also look at the land department regulations and formalities, property and tenancy disputes, committees and comparison with intellectual property disputes.
