OVERVIEW
Business email compromise is a form of cyber fraud whereby a hacker targets and obtains access to a business email account, imitates the business and emails fraudulent payment requests to the hacked company’s bank.
The HFW team recently acted for a claimant company before the DIFC Courts, in what is believed to be the first DIFC judgment where the court examined both business email compromise and the Quincecare duty of care.
Join HFW and LexisNexis Middle East for a seminar in Abu Dhabi where our expert, Justin Whelan, will talk through the case and the key takeaways being that in the emerging world of cybercrime, financial institutions in the DIFC should be aware that they are under a duty to act with reasonable care and skill when carrying out a customer’s instructions.
