Family law matters of non-Muslim foreigners from civil marriage, divorce to child custody and inheritance just received an update with the Federal Decree-Law No.41/2022 coming into effect on February 1, 2023. The new law promotes equal rights in filing custody, divorce or inheritance and is a testimony to the consistent efforts invested in aligning the UAE legislative system to international standards. The reforms provide non-Muslim foreigners the opportunity to choose any other legislation in force on family and personal matters in the UAE other than new decree law.
